The calculator uses a formula, to calculate the payments, derived from the loan terms, the interest rate, and the amount of the loan. The information from that formula is then use to run an algorithm which calculates each period's payments. The output table provides information which includes the portion of payment which is applied to the interest of the loan and the portion which is applied to principle, and finally the remaining balance.
